The extension of its main administrative centre was an occasion for Essener Ferrostaal AG to construct three new building sections on a neighboring plot. One of these was sold later to the auditing company PWC.
The two-floor entrance hall of the PWC's building has a particularly ceremonial air. Clients, guests and staff members are greeted here by an environment comprising wood, stone and high-grade metal. The room is structured by a pair of blue-painted concrete columns, duplicated outside in front of the glass facades. A bridge with a glass floor connects the offices together on the first floor. The bridge's suspension from the raw ceiling as well as the basic grid and extension grid of 1350 and 5400 millimeters respectively resulted in a grid of 675 x 675 millimeters for the suspended ceiling. This is a highly unusual dimension according to the architect consultant from pinta acoustic in charge of the project. Nevertheless, pinta was able to provide a solution permitting fully free dimensioning over a large area.
Matching ceiling and rail systems
pinta EXPANDEDLINE was used to achieve elegant ceiling design here. The wide-mesh structure enlivens even high rooms. The background comprising a black FM pinta cassette insert reinforces the 3-dimensional impression. With a size of 175 m2, the entrance hall is furnished with EXPANDEDLINE steel elements. Elements comprising weather-resistant aluminum were selected for the 25 m2 soffit of the entrance area outside the building. The underlying rail system appropriately comprises aluminum too. The system of visible rails accentuates the ceiling area with bright lines, also appearing in the wall made of Swiss pear tree. Designer light fixtures are suspended from the ceiling rails' junctions. The triad of light accents, structured expanded-metal elements and reflective visible rails lends the entrance hall the desired prominent and high-class appearance.
